Conor Donnelly's goal

Goal name

36) Visit the pyramids

Goal description

The Great Pyramid at Giza, Egypt, is the only one of the seven wonders of the ancient world still surviving. There has been much speculation as to the purpose of the pyramids. It is generally thought they were tombs of great Pharaohs, but research has suggested that they might have been used as observatories and that they were perfectly aligned to the star constellations of that time. Whatever the purpose, there is no denying their construction was an amazing feat of engineering considering the limited construction and surveying tools available.
Visit the pyramids and see these amazing structures for yourself. Walk down the low, dimly lit corridors, experience the sights and smells and imagine what life was like 4500 years ago when these mysterious buildings were constructed.

Date goal set: 4th May 2012
